Competition Structure

The Valuation Case Competition is broken down into three rounds. Each builds on the previous round's analysis and will test the participant's knowledge of financial concepts, technical skills and presentation ability. For more information, please see the competition guide (PDF).

Round Breakdown

Registered teams of four students from across the country will have one week to review the material and develop their written recommendations.

Round One is focused on fundamental valuation and financial modeling. Winning teams are selected to advance to Round Two which forces students to dive deeper into the drivers of growth for their firm and present their findings to a panel of WST judges over webinar software.

Four teams will then be selected to advance to the Round Three for a final live round of competition in New York City as a centerpiece of the Conference. Rounds Two and Three build upon the analysis done in prior rounds and culminate in the recommendation of a restructuring scenario for their firm.

Special Access to GLG Experts

We are pleased to announce the participation of this year's platinum-level sponsor: the Gerson Lehrman Group (GLG). GLG is a research organization catering to financial services companies that allows professionals looking to connect with experts in several industries to increase their working knowledge of a specific vertical. The company's extensive network of management consultants has been helping professionals in their work for over 14 years.

The student teams qualifying for the final round of competition will have the opportunity to consult with GLG experts in whichever industry their company operates to best refine their analysis and valuation. This is an extremely valuable research opportunity and will help ensure that students present the highest level of analysis possible for the Final Round of the Competition.

The Competition is judged by both buy-side and sell-side active industry professionals, Wall Street Training consultants and representatives from academia, with nearly $5,000 in cash and prizes available to top teams!
